Description
Garden walls and gazebo, built in the early 18th century, with few later alterations. The walls are made of red brick laid in Flemish bond, resting on a stone rubble plinth. The gazebo features a hipped asbestos slate roof and has a brick chimney stack on the left side. There are 19th-century cast iron gates at both the front and rear of the garden walls.
The walls enclose a rectangular garden measuring about 50 metres by 25 metres, with gateways at both the front and rear. The gazebo is attached to the right side of the garden, facing into it, and consists of a single room heated by a stack on the left side.
The walls stand approximately 3 metres high and include brick corbels and coping. At the front (north), the walls rise to a taller section on both sides, with a segmental arch in the brickwork on the left, which was formerly a doorway and is now blocked with similar brickwork. The centre of the walls slopes down to a pair of brick piers featuring corbels and pyramidal capitals, topped with 19th-century cast iron gates adorned with trefoil finials. At the rear of the garden, there is a segmental brick arch over a narrower gateway, flanked by piers and a pair of matching cast iron gates.
On the right side of the garden, the gazebo is integrated into the wall, with a gateway featuring a timber lintel to the left. The gazebo is a single storey with a central doorway that has a segmental arch and a 20th-century glazed door. There are 20th-century windows on both sides, each with a flat brick arch. The sides of the gazebo are blind, and the stack has a corbelled brick cornice. Outside the garden walls, at the right end, there is a single storey lean-to made of stone rubble, which includes a plank door and a single casement window with a cranked head. The rear of the gazebo is blind.
