Description

The Post Office is a house that has been altered to serve as a Post Office. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and has undergone few later changes. The building is constructed of granite rubble with brick dressings and features a scantle slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. There are gable end stacks with brick shafts.

The layout consists of a double depth plan, with a central entrance leading to two equally sized principal rooms on the front left and right, each heated by a gable end stack. At the rear, there is a central stair hall with shallow service rooms. A small single-storey addition from the later 19th century is located at the front right side. Around the early 20th century, the front and rear rooms on the left were modified for use as a shop, with an entrance on the left side.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are mid-19th century sashes featuring wide margin glazing and cambered brick arches. The central entrance has a 19th-century four-panelled door with a cambered brick arch. Attached to the front right is the small single-storey addition with a monopitch roof, which includes a 19th-century 12-pane sash window with a cambered brick arch on the inner side and a 20th-century door with an overlight at the front.

On the left side at ground floor, there is a continuous timber lintel over a central 20th-century glazed door, with early 20th-century four-pane shop windows to the right and left, each with toplights. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century 12-pane sashes with cambered brick arches. At the rear, there is a central 20th-century glazed door leading to a two-light, three-pane 19th-century casement window with a cambered brick arch to the left. The first floor features a central round-arched 19th-century 12-pane sash with splayed glazing bars illuminating the stair, along with a two-light, eight-pane 19th-century casement window to the left, also with a cambered brick arch. There is a small single-storey addition to the left, constructed of later 19th-century brick.

The interior has not been inspected.
