Description

The gazebo and garden wall adjoining the west wing of Holywell Hall date from the mid to late 18th century. The garden wall is made of narrow hand-made bricks arranged in an irregular English garden wall bond. The south-west wall of the gazebo is constructed from hand-made brick, while the rest is made of coursed rubble with squared quoins. The wall stands approximately 3.5 metres tall and extends about 60 metres south-west from the west wing of Holywell Hall. It features brick coping and regularly spaced buttresses on the south side, with part of it rebuilt in engineering brick near the junction with the gazebo.

The gazebo itself is a low, two-storey structure with a square plan. It has a large blocked Venetian window on the south-west face, which is topped with a stone key and lintels over the side lights. There is a 20th-century vehicle opening on the north-east side and a wooden ladder-stair leading to a first-floor doorway on the south-east side. The parapet has moulded coping and is slightly ramped up at the corners. The gazebo is currently roofless. The wall and gazebo are included for their group value, although a one-storey addition on the south-east of the gazebo is not considered of special interest. At the time of the survey, the structures were derelict.
