Description
Coth Bean is a small house dating from the 18th century. It features painted cob over low rubble footings and has a half-hipped wheat reed thatched roof. There is a rendered chimney located just behind the middle of the ridge of the main roof. The house has a T-shaped plan, with the front range (the head of the T) likely being the original two-room layout, which includes a larger room on the left, probably serving as the kitchen/living room, and a smaller room on the right, likely the parlour. At the front left, there is an old or original lean-to, probably an earth closet, and an original porch is situated in front of the doorway. There is also a wing at right angles to the rear middle, which is presumably from the 20th century but designed to match the style of the older part of the house. The exterior has two storeys with painted cob walls that have a good texture. The south front features three irregularly placed window openings: one in the middle on the first floor, and two on the ground floor, one to the left of the middle and one to the right. The entrance porch is positioned towards the right, and the doors and windows are from the 20th century but fit within the original openings. The interior has not been inspected.
