Description
Mawnan Methodist Chapel, built in the early 19th century, is a simple rectangular building with a front elevation divided into three symmetrical bays. The front is constructed of dressed granite, while the rest of the chapel is built of killas rubble with granite dressings. The roof is slated, with a pedimented gable at the front. Cast-iron gutters run along the roof. The chapel has a ground-floor design only. The front elevation features a central bay that projects forward and is topped by a triangular pediment with moulded granite cornices. There is a doorway on either side of the central bay, and a blocked window in the central bay itself. Upper parts of the bays have round-headed windows with late 19th-century horned sash windows and fanlight heads. The doors are late 19th or early 20th century ledged and braced. A round-headed window, similar to those on the front, is found mid-way along the right-hand wall. Inside, the chapel has a plain plastered interior with late 19th-century pitch-pine pews sloping toward the front. The fittings were replaced around the late 19th century.
