Description
Hasswells is a small house, likely dating to the late 17th century and remodelled in the 18th century. It has rendered cob walls and a thatched wheat reed roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends, incorporating a large external breast with a quadrant and a slate-roofed oven projection. Internal chimney breasts remain on the rear wall, indicating an earlier form of the house. The original layout was a two-room, through-passage plan, with the left room being divided in the 19th century. A small 20th-century lean-to has been added to the right gable end.
The south-east front is nearly symmetrical, featuring three windows. The doorway is slightly right of centre and is set within a 20th-century gable porch. All the windows are 19th-century, 12-pane, 2-light casements.
Inside, the house retains a roughly 16th-century chamfered oak crossbeam with run-out stops. The oak roof structure, which has lapped and pegged collars, is probably of the 18th century.
