Description
22 River Street is a town house that has been converted into two shops with accommodation above. It dates from the late 1830s and features stucco on studwork with a hipped asbestos slate roof. The building has a double-depth corner-site plan and stands two storeys tall, with an overall four-window range that includes a left-hand return into Castle Street. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes set within moulded architraves. The late 19th or early 20th-century shop fronts have plate glass; the corner shop on the left has a double shop front with a splayed doorway into the bowed corner, along with end pilasters and consoles supporting a moulded entablature with a fascia. The other shop features a doorway on the left, a slender column next to the shop window, and a fascia fitted with a blind. The interior has not been inspected.
