Description

107 Kenwyn Street is a corner shop and adjoining store located in Truro. The store likely dates from the mid-19th century, while the shop was designed by architect Leonard Winn in 1908. The store features a stucco exterior on masonry and has a grouted scantle slate hipped roof with a brick stack on the right. The shop has a dry Delabole slate roof with a hip at the corner, and the building has an L-shaped corner site plan, consisting of a single storey.

The store has a tall three-window range front facing Little Castle Street, with late 19th century or 20th century horned 12-pane sash windows set high above a moulded string course. The large corner shop front to the right includes a plinth for the stallriser, pilasters flanking the original doorways, and a bowed corner light. It features plate-glass windows with slender mullions and small-paned overlights, all topped with a moulded entablature that includes an incised nameplate inscribed and gilded in copperplate script reading "The Redruth Brewery Company Limited." There is one nameplate on each street front and a company arabesque on the corner. The front has a four-light configuration with a doorway on the left to Little Castle Street and a six-light double front with a central doorway to Kenwyn Street. There are two later doorways replacing former windows on Little Castle Street, and a doorway modified to include part of a former window on the Kenwyn Street front.

The interior of the shop has been altered in the 20th century and was not inspected. Architectural drawings created by Leonard Winn for the early 20th century section of this listed building are held by the Cornwall Record Office.
