Description

No. 55 Castle Street is a building dating from the 1830s that contains three shops with accommodation above. The front is finished in stucco, and it has an asbestos slate roof with brick chimneys positioned over the cross party walls. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall, featuring a three-by-three window arrangement on the front. The original 12-pane sash windows on the first floor are set within moulded wood architraves. The late 19th-century shop fronts include plate-glass windows. No. 55 features a rusticated round-headed doorway next to the shop front, which retains original fittings on the fascia with a blind. No. 22 River Street has a similar shop front to the right, along with a corner shop that has a central splayed doorway and a glazed door, supported by terminal pilasters and consoles on the fascia with a moulded cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
