Description

No. 15 Broad Street is a town house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the early 18th century but is built on a 17th-century site and was refronted in the early 19th century. The exterior features stucco on masonry with channelled rustication on the ground floor and architraves on the first floor. It has a steep dry Delabole slate roof with a brick stack on the right. The building has a deep plan that includes a rear wing and showcases a fine Regency-style facade.

It stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay, three-window front. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, and there are two-storey bowed bays flanking the central entrance bay. The entrance features a doorway with an eared architrave and a deep hood with a key pattern on the soffit, supported by coved brackets over consoles. The door is an 18th-century six-panel design with the original box lock and an overlight above it.

Inside, the stair hall contains an early 18th-century round-headed sash window with very thick glazing bars and a petalled fanlight head. The interior retains many 18th-century features, including an open-well open-string staircase with turned balusters and a moulded ramped handrail, moulded ceiling cornices, and fielded panelled doors with HL hinges. Additionally, there are many painted panels, reportedly from a ship, set into the walls of the entrance hall. The left-hand front room has early 19th-century curved window shutters.
