Description
The Victory Bookshop is a pair of adjoining houses with a shop located on a street corner in St Mawes, dating from the early 19th century. The building features slate rubble at the basement shop level, while the upper parts are primarily slate hung. It has a grouted, scantle slate roof that is hipped at the corner, with brick chimneys positioned over the gable ends. The houses are designed with two-room, double-depth plans and are mostly two storeys high, although the house on the right includes a basement shop.
The front of the building is three-sided, with the westward-facing sections having either one or two windows. The left house has a central doorway with a boarded door, an overlight, and a hood, flanked by hornless sash windows set in rebuilt brick walling. Above this, there is original slate hanging and a four-pane sash window. The house with the shop on the right has a two reused supporting framed front, featuring 20th-century slate hanging with some fishscale patterning. The ground floor has hornless 12-pane sashes, while the first floor has hornless 16-pane sashes. Additionally, the north front facing Bohella Road includes a box porch. The interior has not been inspected, and the building is included for its group value.
