Description
The Victory Inn is an inn, possibly originally a house, dating from the 18th century. It features painted slatestone rubble walls and a steep asbestos slate roof that has a lower pitch at the rear, sweeping down to lower eaves. A very tall brick chimney is located over the left gable end, which is adjacent to the much taller gable end of the Victory Bookshop, and there is also a brick chimney over the external breast on the right gable end. The building has a two-room, double-depth, central stair plan that was remodeled in the early 19th century. It stands two storeys plus an attic and has a slightly irregular six-window west street front, with the entrance located at the fourth ground floor opening. There is a window to the left of the entrance in a widened opening and two windows to the right of the doorway. A 20th-century porch with a slate roof is present, along with wooden lintels that have been cemented over and granite sills. The building features three flat-roofed dormers with 12-pane, two-light casements. The interior retains stairs and beams from the early 19th-century remodeling.
