Description
Glebe House is a pair of adjoining houses, likely originally built as one, dating from the 17th century. The exterior features painted slatestone rubble walls and hipped asbestos slate roofs, with a polygonal shape at the north end. There is a large brick chimney over an external breast and a stone rubble stack on the side wall of the west wing. The building has an L-shaped, single-depth plan and was remodeled in the 19th century.
It stands two storeys tall, with the main range displaying two windows on the street front and a pair of doorways with hoods supported by wooden brackets to the right. A one-window wing at a right angle adjoins further to the right. Most windows are 16-pane, 2-light casements, except for an 8-pane, 2-light casement on the first floor to the left. The windows have slate sills and wooden lintels that are cemented over. The corner to the left is splayed to full height to allow for carriage access. On the ground and first floors, there are 16-pane sashes to the left of the chimney breast in the north wall, with an ovolo moulding on the ground floor wooden lintel.
The interior of No 8 features a ground floor front room with heavy ovolo-moulded oak beams, although the stops are concealed behind dry lining. The rest of the interior has not been inspected.
