Description
Nos 27 and 28 on River Street are a pair of town houses that have been converted into two shops. They date from the early to mid-19th century and are constructed from coursed local rubble with granite dressings. The building features a dry Delabole slate hipped roof with a brick stack on the right side. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, with a symmetrical three-window front on the upper floors. The right side has late 19th-century hornless four-pane sash windows, while the left side has 20th-century horned sashes with glazing bars, and there are blind central windows, all set under segmental arches with projecting keyblocks. The ground floor includes an early 20th-century shop front on the right, characterized by scribed end pilasters and consoles, and a 20th-century shop front on the left. The interior has been altered in the 20th century and was not inspected. The building is included for its group value.
