Description
35 and 36 River Street are a pair of town houses that have been converted into two shops. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed of dressed coursed local stone with freestone dressings, topped with an asbestos slate roof behind a parapet. The buildings have a double-depth plan that was altered during the conversion to shops. They rise three storeys and feature a symmetrical four-window front. There is a mid-floor string and a moulded cornice at the parapet, which includes a blocking course. The segmental arches above the late 19th and early 20th century tripartite sash windows, each with horns and arranged in a 2/4/2 pane configuration, are very shallow and nearly flat. The ground floor has two 20th-century shop fronts: a large plate-glass window for No.35 on the left and a more traditional double shop front for No.36. The interior has not been inspected.
