Description
Nos. 3 and 3A on River Street is a town house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the early 19th century and features a stucco exterior on studwork, topped with a grouted scantle slate roof. The building has a deep plan that has been altered to accommodate the shops. It stands three storeys tall and has a two-window range on the front. The façade includes quoin strips and original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The first-floor windows are adorned with flat anthemion-decorated pediments supported by consoles, while the second and third floors feature shell-decorated aprons and architraves with scrolled ears. The ground floor consists of two shop fronts; the left-hand shop has fluted pilasters, while both shop fronts are otherwise modern from the 20th century, featuring high fascia. The interior of the shop has been modernised, and the rest was not inspected.
