Description
Nos. 9 and 9A on Pydar Street is a town house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the early 19th century and features a stucco exterior on studwork, topped with a hipped slate roof that has projecting eaves. The building has a deep plan that was altered in the 20th century to enlarge the shop space. It stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window front. The facade includes quoin pilasters and two pairs of Doric pilasters that divide the bays, along with two string courses. The original hornless sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed by moulded architraves, with a wider central tripartite sash. There are decorative panels above the first-floor windows and wreaths above the top windows. The shop windows were updated in the 20th century, with the left and centre windows flanked by pilasters topped with consoles. The interior of the shop has been altered in the 20th century, and the upper floors have not been inspected.
