Description
No. 12 Pydar Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the 18th century but was refronted in the early 19th century. The front features render that replaces the original stucco on studwork, and it has a natural slate roof with a gable end on the right. The building has a deep plan with a passage on the left side and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. Notable architectural details include lozenge-shaped quoins, a Vitruvian-scrolled string course, and possibly an 18th-century modillioned cornice. The early 19th-century windows are sixteen-pane sashes set within wooden architraves, with decorated keyblocks above the first-floor windows. The shop front was altered in the 20th century and features a double entrance with a splayed corner leading to the passage on the left. The interior of the shop has been changed in the 20th century, and the upper floors have not been inspected.
