Description
Nos. 3, 3A, and 5 High Street is a house that has been converted into flats and a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and features an early 20th-century shopfront. The building is constructed of brick with a tiled roof, although there is slate at the front. The symmetrical front, facing east, has three storeys and five windows. It has a hipped roof and moulded eaves. The brickwork includes blue headers with red flush dressings, quoins that extend down to bands, first and second floor bands, rubbed flat arches, and walling below the ground floor cills. The windows are sashes set in reveals. The wooden doorcase features a modillion open pediment, a broken cornice above Ionic capitals, three-quarter plain columns, an arched opening with a decorative fanlight, and double doors with three panels, which are accessed by three stone steps. On the north side, there is a shopfront that includes a cornice, frieze, fanlight, and a half-glazed door. Inside, the building has doors, fireplaces, and an oval staircase that runs from the top to the bottom, complete with a wreathed mahogany rail.
