Description
No. 15 Victoria Square is a town house that has been converted into an office, dating from the early 19th century. It features incised stucco on masonry and has a hipped slate roof with a brick lateral stack on the left. The building occupies a corner site, which was fitted with a corner shop in the late 19th century.
It stands three storeys high and has a two-window front facing Victoria Square and a two-window return to Kenwyn Street. The original 12-pane sash window is located on the first floor to the left, while the other windows are later horned sashes. The ground floor showcases a late 19th-century shop front with a doorway at the splayed corner, and an additional doorway to the far right, featuring scribed pilasters and consoles topped with round arches that have quatrefoils. This design breaks a cornice adorned with modillions. The ground floor also has a six-panel door with a blind overlight, a similar cornice on the sloping shop fascia, and an end pilaster on the left side of the Kenwyn Street front. The stall risers are decorated with latticed cast-iron panels featuring quatrefoils, and there is ornate cast-iron cresting above the fascia. The interior of the shop was altered in the 20th century, and the upper floors have not been inspected.
