Description
Nos 3A and 3 are a house that has been converted into two shops, dating from the 17th century with later alterations. The building is rendered and has a Westmorland slate roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays. On the ground floor, the left side (no 3A) features a 20th-century shop entrance with plate-glass windows, while the right side (no 3) has a 20th-century half-glazed door with plate-glass shop windows set in a 19th-century casing. The first floor has two 4-light 20th-century windows with transoms. The interior was examined in 1977 by a member of the North Yorkshire Vernacular Buildings Study Group and has not been altered since; it includes walls of squared stone and rubble with timber posts supporting ceiling beams, one of which has ovolo moulding. The upper floor retains 17th-century timbering in the side walls and roof structure.
