Description
Church Cottage, which is attached to the lych gate on the right, is a cottage that was formerly a pair of cottages. It dates from the early 19th century or possibly earlier. The building is constructed of shale rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with brick gable chimneys. The left chimney has a rendered stump that may be made of stone and could be older.
The cottage has a two-room plan and stands two storeys high with two windows. There is a door that is off-centre to the right, while another door to the left is blocked. The ground floor left window has been widened and features a 12-pane, 2-light casement, as does the ground floor window to the right. The first floor windows are 16-pane, centre-hung, 2-light casements. The windows have timber lintels, and the doorways are topped with shallow brick arches.
Inside, there is a straight flight stair located in front of the door, along with evidence suggesting there was a second stair. The interior also includes a large open stone hearth with an oven to the left and a large hearth to the right, as well as open beamed ceilings and exposed truss feet.
