Description
Ferryside Cottage is an inn that has been converted into a house. It is likely a mid-19th century rebuild of an earlier inn. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with a grouted scantle slate roof and features brick stacks with paired diagonal shafts at the gable ends. It has a double depth plan and stands two storeys high. The east front has three windows, with a doorway that is central to the fenestration but slightly grouped to the right. There is an open porch with a gable. The ground floor has wide three-light casements, while the first floor has two-light casements, all of which include glazing bars. Cambered brick arches are present over the openings, and there is an external stack at the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, it was known as the Ship Inn until 1854. The cottage is situated in an important scenic position on a wooded spur of land opposite Malpas village.
