Description
The Ferryhouse is a house that was once the ferryman's residence and has also served as a pair of cottages. It is likely a 19th-century remodelling of an earlier structure. The building features painted slatestone rubble walls and a scantle slate roof with gable ends, along with an axial brick stack that has a pair of diagonally set brick shafts. Each cottage has a two-room, double-depth layout and the building stands two storeys high with a four-window north front. The ground floor includes a door, followed by two windows and another door. The ground floor windows are three-light casements with glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are two-light casements with twelve panes each, which appear to be from the 19th century. All openings are topped with cambered brick arches. The south front is similar to the north front. The interior has not been inspected. The house is situated in an important scenic location on a wooded spur of land opposite Malpas Village and is included for its group value.
