Description

A pair of cottages, likely dating from the 16th century, originally known as the Church House. The cottages have rough cast walls, likely partly constructed of cob, but the south gable and rear wing are built of rubble stone. They are covered by thatched roofs; the south gable of the main range and the rear gable of the wing are half-hipped. A projecting chimney stack of granite ashlar is on the north gable, featuring a chamfered plinth, offsets, and a moulded tapered top, with a short brick shaft added to the top. There is also a brick chimney shaft on the south gable. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a rounded rubble stair turret to the rear of the main range. It is two storeys high, with a rear wing of one-and-a-half storeys. The front has three windows. All windows are wooden casements; the later 19th or early 20th century windows have two panes of glass, except for the right-hand window on each storey, which are 20th century windows with leaded lights. The doorway, situated slightly off-centre to the right, has a late 16th or 17th century wooden frame with a cranked head. A 20th century porch with a thatched roof supported by wooden posts is in front of the doorway. To the left of the porch is a ground-floor window with two panes, and then a slightly higher four-light casement with a moulded wooden frame and drip-mould, the latter missing its right-hand terminal. Above this is a three-light casement, and over the doorway a two-light casement. The window levels step down successively. The interior has not been inspected, but it likely contains features of interest, some of which may be concealed by plaster.
