Description
The Rod and Line and Homeside is a house and shop located on Fore Street in Polperro, likely dating from the mid-19th century, although it may have been remodeled from an earlier structure. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble with incised quoins above the ground floor and features a slate roof with gabled ends. It sits on a sloping site and has a three-storey gabled front elevation. The ground floor includes a large 20th-century shop window, and there is a moulded string course above the ground floor. The first floor has a 4-pane sash window beneath decorative moulded plasterwork, while the second floor features a 4-pane sash in a segmental moulded arched opening. The gable is adorned with decorative barge boards. On the Fore Street elevation, there is a stair projection at the higher end on the left, a 6-pane fielded panelled door, and a rectangular opening above with margin glazing bars. A lateral rendered chimney stack is located to the right. Inside Homeside, above the shop, there are 19th-century ceiling beams and a 19th-century stair in the stair projection. The building is included for its group value.
