Description

Penarvon Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century, which was remodeled around the 1820s and extended in the early to mid-19th century. It features painted stone rubble and cob walls, with a scantle slate roof that was formerly thatched, and brick chimneys located over the original gable ends. The original layout consisted of two rooms: a parlour on the left and a kitchen/living room on the right, which includes a large fireplace. The 19th-century extension added another room to the left of the parlour, with an outshut at the rear.

The cottage is two storeys high and has an overall three-window south front. The 19th-century extension on the left has been altered in the 20th century, while the original part of the house, which has a slightly irregular two-window front, remains on the right. The original doorway is slightly left of the center and now features a pointed arch window that matches the 20th-century copies of the early 19th-century Gothic two-light casement windows, which have Y-tracery and glazing bars. The eaves were heightened in the early 20th century.

Inside, the cottage has 18th-century bowtell moulded ceiling beams and a large fireplace in the right-hand room. This is the only pre-19th-century house in the picturesque Penarvon Cove and is the only one visible from the shoreline.
