Description
Rose Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, located in Manaccan, Helford. It features painted rubble with cob on the first floor front and ends, and nearly full height at the rear, with slate sills and wooden lintels. The roof is covered with wooden shingles and has brick chimneys at the gable ends.
The house has a two-room layout, with a slightly larger kitchen living-room on the right and a parlour on the left, separated by a cross passage or vestibule. There is also a small 20th-century extension on the left side. It is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical two-window east front, with a nearly central doorway that contains the original six-panel door. The ground floor has original 12-pane horizontal sliding sashes, while the upper floor features later four-pane casements.
The front, sides, and rear of the house exhibit good stone and cob texture. The interior has not been inspected. Rose Cottage is noted as one of the least altered early 19th-century houses in the parish and is part of a group of other listed buildings.
