Description
Popigale is a small house built around the early 19th century. It features painted rubble with granite lintels and cob on the first floor at the front. The roof is made of scantle slate, with an external gable end stack on the left that survives from an older, now-demolished house, and a hip on the right. The house has a single cell plan and was extended in the 20th century with a lean-to at the left-hand gable end. It is built into a bank at the rear and has two storeys. The east front has one window, with a doorway on the right that has a 20th-century ledged door, and a window to the left, along with a window above, both of which are original 12-pane 2-light horizontal sliding sashes. There is also another original horizontal sliding sash window at the first floor in the middle of the right-hand side wall. The interior has not been inspected. A garden wall at the front, which has a splayed corner, is likely part of the original house's front wall. This curious but picturesque single-cell house appears to have been designed to fit the restricted site.
