Description

Trecarrell Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with extensions added in the late 18th or early 19th century, along with later alterations. The building features painted roughly coursed slate-stone, with slate hung on the first floor at the front right and mainly cob at the rear, topped with a slate roof. The original cottage has cob gable ends that are still visible internally and has been extended on both sides.

The cottage is two storeys high and has four 19th-century casement windows on the first floor, some with L-hinges, three of which are located to the right beneath the eaves of the slate-hung section. The ground floor of this section has two casements to the left and one to the right of a gabled porch that covers a 20th-century glazed door; all windows feature H-L hinges. The left part of the building has a casement window to the left of another 20th-century glazed door. There is a rubblestone ridge stack with slate drips at the junction between the two parts, a similar integral end stack to the left, and an external end stack with a red brick top on the right. Additionally, there is a projecting former dairy at right angles to the rear.

Inside, the room to the right of the ridge stack has a slate floor and chamfered joists, along with an open fireplace featuring a wood lintel. The two cob walls of the original gable ends are visible in the roof space, with one side having two pigeon nesting holes and ledges exposed due to the removal of the first-floor ceiling during a resurvey in January 1988. The roof structure consists of a collar truss in four bays between the cob walls.
