Description
Atway Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an extension added in the later 18th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof that has a gable end on the left and a half hipped end on the right. The building features a stone rubble axial stack. Originally, it likely had a one-room plan heated by an end stack. The later extension added a second room, which is heated by a fireplace that backs onto the earlier fireplace in the end stack. A 19th-century outshut has been added across the front of the right-hand room. The cottage is two storeys high, with the entrance located to the left of centre, featuring a segmental arched opening with a plank door. There is a three-light casement window on the ground floor to the far left and a two-light casement directly above it. The right side has a lean-to outshut, while the rear elevation includes two 19th-century casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.
