Description
Newchurches Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1854, as indicated by the datestone, by the Coode estate for E. Coode. The building is constructed of stone rubble with brick segmental arches over the openings and features a rag slate roof with a hipped end and deep eaves. It has brick shafts for the axial and end stacks. The farmhouse has an irregular double depth plan with entrances on the right and left sides. The ground slopes down to the front, where the two main rooms are situated above a cellar. The service rooms are located on the higher rear side of the house, above the entrances.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall and has a cellar. The front elevation presents an almost symmetrical three-window arrangement, with the windows slightly offset to the right. There are 19th-century partly blocked casements that light the cellar, topped by a moulded plinth. On the ground floor, there are three 16-pane sash windows, with three additional sash windows above, all featuring brick segmental arches.
The left side of the house includes a 19th-century gabled entrance porch made of stone rubble, topped with a rag slate roof and a four-centred brick arch. There are 16-pane sashes on either side of the porch, and two more placed asymmetrically above. The right side features a second entrance with a 19th-century panelled door and a stair window on the higher right side. A roundel on the first floor to the left displays the datestone 'E. COODE ESQ 1854'. The interior has not been inspected.
