Description

Trewethern Cottage is a house dating from around the early 18th century, with a later 18th-century extension to the rear. It is constructed of stone rubble, with a scantle slate roof and stone rubble chimney stack on the left-hand gable end, and a brick stack on the right-hand hipped end. A rear wing is also of stone rubble with a slate roof and gable end.

The original layout consisted of two rooms and a through passage, with a hall/kitchen on the left, heated by a stone rubble gable end stack containing a cloam oven, and a parlour on the right, also heated from an end stack. A later extension created a wing of a single-room plan to the rear of the hall/kitchen and passage.

The front of the house has an asymmetrical two-window arrangement. On the ground floor, there are two probably 20th-century two-light casement windows with opening top lights, flanking a stone rubble porch with a slate lean-to roof and a 20th-century part-glazed door. The first floor has similar two-light casements. The left-hand side elevation of the rear wing has 20th-century windows and a dormer.

Inside, the cottage was remodelled in the late 20th century with partitions removed. The ceiling beams in the room on the right are chamfered with straight-cut stops. The ceiling beams in the room on the left were replaced around the late 19th or early 20th century, and the fireplace was remodelled in the late 20th century. The cloam oven has a metal door.
