Description

The horse engine house, located 5 meters north of Trewint Farmhouse, is a bank barn and horse engine house that is currently used as a calveshouse with a hay loft above. The barn dates from around 1800, while the horse engine house was built around 1810. It is constructed from rubblestone and features a scantle slate roof with half hips on the barn and a polygonal end on the engine house.

The barn has a single storey on the west side, with a partly rendered front that includes central double plank doors. There is a lean-to on the right-hand hipped end and late 19th-century shippons on the left-hand hipped end. At the rear, the 1½ storey horse engine house is positioned to the left of center and has a polygonal end with rectangular slits in the canted walls. The north elevation features a wide door that leads to the hay loft above, and there are doveholes located below the eaves. Inside the horse engine house, there is a pegged collar rafter roof with a kingpost truss, although the central pier has been removed.
