Description
This building is a barn with an attached horse engine house, located 100 metres south of Treglyn. The barn was constructed in 1844, as indicated by a datestone, with the horse engine house added shortly after. It is built from stone rubble, featuring dressed granite quoins and brick segmental arches for the openings. The barn has a rag slate roof with half hipped ends, while the horse engine house has a lower rag slate roof with a polygonal end.
The barn is rectangular in shape, with shippons on the ground floor and a threshing floor above. The horse engine house is located at the rear right and has a polygonal end. The barn has an asymmetrical elevation with two storeys. The ground floor includes four ventilation slits with pointed heads, alternating with three segmental arched openings. The first floor features opposing threshing doors to the left of centre. The horse engine house has five canted sides and some openings that are partly blocked.
Inside the horse engine house, there is hybrid machinery that is largely intact, including gearing and a wheel. The roof features a king post truss. The survival of machinery in a horse engine house is exceptionally rare in Cornwall.
