Description

This is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with granite quoins, and has a rag slate roof with half-hipped ends. There is a stone rubble end stack on the left and a rendered brick end stack on the right. The original plan of the house was retained in the circa early 19th century. The ground floor features a wide entrance hall, with a hall-kitchen to the left and a slightly smaller parlour to the right, both of which are heated by the end stacks. Smaller, unheated service rooms originally occupied the rear of the building, originally under an integral, single-storey outshut roof. A dog-leg stair is located at the rear of the passage. In the late 20th century, the integral, single-storey rear outshut was raised to two storeys.

The front of the house presents a symmetrical three-window façade. The left-hand side of the building has been partly rebuilt, and the ground floor openings are framed by brick segmental arches. There are replacement 6-pane sash windows in the hall-kitchen on the left, and 4-pane sashes dating from the 19th century in the parlour on the right. A central, part-glazed 20th-century door is set within a 19th-century stone rubble gabled porch. Three 4-pane sashes are located on the first floor, each with a timber lintel. The rear elevation incorporates a 20th-century extension built of rendered concrete block.

Internally, the original partitions and plan are largely complete. The parlour on the right features 18th-century fielded panelled cupboard doors and a dado rail, along with a 20th-century chimney-piece. The hall-kitchen on the left has papered ceiling-beams. The wide, 18th-century dog-leg stair has a moulded rail. The front bedrooms on both the left and right sides have coved plaster ceilings, with cyma recta and cyma reversa moulding to the cornices. There are 18th-century fielded panelled doors to cupboards, fitted with H-L hinges.
