Description

The stables directly south of Trenodden Farmhouse, dating from around the 1870s, have been converted into a cottage. They are constructed from snecked slatestone with ashlar granite dressings and feature a slate roof with gabled ends. The front has two gables flanking a central tower that has a sloping roof and decorated slate hanging on the front gable. Above this is a pyramid roof with a bellcote. On the left-hand gable end, there is a base for a brick shaft. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a short gabled wing projecting to the left, which includes a two-storey porch in the angle, topped with a bellcote. There is an outshut at the rear. The internal layout has been altered, now featuring a central cross passage with 20th-century stairs leading to the rear.

Architecturally, the stables are in the Gothic style and are two storeys high, with an asymmetrical three-window front. The ground floor has a pointed relieving arch on the left, which is above two round-arched windows with cut stone arches and granite keys. These windows are fitted with sashes that have radiating glazing bars. In the tympanum of the relieving arch, there is a keyed oculus. On the right side, there is a pair of round-arched windows similar to those on the left. Above these, a small gable features a lunette window with a cut stone arch. The two-storey porch at the center has a bellcote above it, with a tall chamfered rectangular opening and a granite lintel. The entrance includes a panelled and glazed door with a light on the left and a blocked fanlight above. A granite string course runs above the ground floor, and above it is a round-headed window with glazing bars and a cut stone arch with a key. The pyramid roof is topped with a square bellcote, which once held a bell, and features a weather vane on a small pyramidal roof.
