Description
Fernpass is a house that may have origins in the 17th century but was remodeled in the late 18th century. It is constructed from rubblestone, rendered on the front, with slate hung on the right-hand gable end. The slate roof has gable ends that continue to the rear in an outshut. There is a large projecting slate-hung rubblestone stack on the right-hand gable end and another stack with a brick shaft on the left-hand gable end. The house is two rooms deep with a projecting rear wing on the southwest side and retains a through passage.
It is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window west front. The ground floor features two tripartite late 19th-century sash windows flanking a central six-panel door, which is partly glazed. The entrance is framed by a Doric porch with replacement thin iron columns on tall square bases. Timber pilasters are present at the rear. Above the door, there are three 19th-century four-pane sashes with horns. The slate flags in the through passage remain intact, and the roof has pegged collar rafters. Historical deeds from 1670 indicate that the property was part of the Trelawney estate.
