Description

The barn and horse engine house, located 40 metres east of Treblethick Farmhouse, dates from around the 1830s. It is constructed from local slate stone rubble with dressed granite and features a rag slate roof with hipped ends, while the horse engine house has a corrugated iron roof. The barn has a rectangular plan, with shippons on the ground floor and a threshing floor above. The horse engine house is attached to the right side and has canted ends.

The building is two storeys high, with a regular front that includes dressed stone segmental arches over the ground floor openings. The spandrels of a 4-centred granite arch, reused as quoins on the right side, likely originated from the now-demolished Treblethick House, which was taken down after 1827. The ground floor features two plank doors beneath dressed stone segmental arches. On the first floor, there is a door to the left, a shuttered window in the centre, and a casement window to the right. Inside the horse engine house, the roof is nailed, but the machinery has been removed.
