Description

Menkee is a house with a garden wall and a mounting block located to the east, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a moulded granite plinth. It has a slate roof with hipped ends and brick stacks at each end. The original layout includes a double depth plan with a central entrance, two main rooms at the front heated by end stacks, and narrow service rooms with a staircase at the rear. The early 19th-century extension at the back likely includes a service range with two rooms and a central entrance.

The exterior is two stories high with a symmetrical three-window front, showcasing early 19th-century 16-pane sash windows. The front door is a six-panel design, flanked by two sashes, with one sash on the left being a replacement with horns. The right side elevation shows the front of the rear wing, which also has a symmetrical three-window front featuring a 19th-century panelled door and 16-pane sashes, with the right-hand sash and the central first-floor sash having horns.

The interior is not accessible, but it is expected to contain complete 18th and early 19th-century joinery and fittings. The house has local historical significance, being associated with the Adam family. The garden wall is made of stone rubble with granite coping, and the mounting block is situated to the east of the house.
