Description

The Wheelhead Cross at Longstone is a cross that likely dates back to before the Conquest and has been restored, possibly being moved to its current location on a later 19th-century shaft. The cross is made of granite and features a wheelhead design, with one side carved with a Maltese cross that has a raised rim and a central ball, while the other side displays an irregular Maltese cross. The shaft, also made of granite, is roughly cut and has a rectangular section. There is a later socket stone associated with it.
