Description

House. Dating from the early to mid-19th century, Polglaze Farmhouse is constructed of slate stone rubble with granite quoins, with slate hung on the front and side elevations. The roof is of rag slate, with hipped ends and brick end stacks. The building follows an ā€˜L’ shaped plan, originally comprising three rooms heated by end stacks, with a two-room and central-entrance plan to the front range, and a single-room kitchen wing to the rear left. A lean-to outshut, containing a dairy, is situated in the angle formed by the two ranges.

The two-storey front elevation is symmetrical, with three windows. A central six-panel door, dating from the 19th century, is glazed. There are two horned 16-pane sashes to the right and left of the entrance, along with three 16-pane sashes above. The sashes to the right and in the centre were likely replaced in the 20th century. A 19th-century two-light casement is located in the left-hand side wall. A 20th-century garage is attached to the right. The rear kitchen stack was rebuilt in the late 20th century.

Inside, the chimney-piece in the left-hand room has been replaced. Approximately mid-19th century panelling partitions off a stair from the left-hand room.
