Description
House. Likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, possibly with earlier fabric, and incorporating later 18th or early 19th century extensions and alterations. The house is constructed of ashlar stone with granite dressings, and has a scantle slate roof with gable and hipped sections, as well as stone stacks. The original main front range is probably late 17th or early 18th century, or a remodelling of that date to an earlier building, featuring two principal rooms and a central entrance. A projecting wing is located on the left, and a range extends behind to the right, both dating to around the late 18th or early 19th century. Further ranges at the rear were not inspected, but may contain earlier elements. The main front range is symmetrical, with a 2:1:2 bay arrangement, and a projecting central section. It has tall, narrow 18-pane sashes, and a central doorway with a moulded and panelled door and a small rectangular overlight. A late 18th or early 19th century wing projects to the left, with a hipped roof, and is set back to the right of another range also dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. Behind the central range, a wooden bellcote is visible above the roofline. The interior was not inspected, but panelled window shutters were noted, and previous descriptions mention early 18th century panelling. It is unlikely that many other high-quality internal features remain, although evidence of earlier work may be present.
