Description
Tamsquite Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, constructed of stone rubble with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends and brick end stacks. The building has a double depth plan, with the entrance located near the center. Inside, there are two front rooms heated by the end stacks, with the entrance leading directly into the left-hand room. A small lobby at the rear has a back door almost opposite the entrance, with a dairy to the rear left and a dog-leg stair and back kitchen to the rear right.
The cottage is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical three-window front, which includes a 20th-century glazed conservatory across the ground floor. There are two original 16-pane hornless sash windows on the ground floor and two 20th-century casements on the first floor, along with an original stair window at the rear.
Inside, the cottage retains complete internal fittings, including several raised and fielded panelled doors, slate flag floors, timber plank and muntin dividing screens, and a late 18th-century or early 19th-century dog-leg stair with stick balusters.
