Description

Rose Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with later alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is built of stone rubble, with the upper level in cob, painted at ground floor level and rendered above. The roof is of asbestos slate with gable ends, featuring brick gable end stacks, one of which is a 20th-century replacement on the left.

The house originally comprised two rooms, a larger room to the left and a smaller room to the right, each heated by a gable end stack. The entrance is off-centre to the right. A 19th-century unheated lean-to addition extends to the front left, featuring a slurried slate roof and a three-pane light to the front, with a 19th-century stable door on the right side. The left side has a large, stepped external stack. Attached to the right end is a single-storey rubble shed with a slurried slate roof and a plank door to the front. The front facade is nearly symmetrical with three 16-pane sash windows on the first floor within exposed early 19th-century boxes. The ground floor has a four-panelled door with a 20-pane sash window in an exposed box to the right and left. The interior has not been inspected.
