Description

ST COLUMB MAJOR SX 86 SE 6/145 Brooklands - II

House. Probably late C17, with alterations and additions of C19 and C20. Stone rubble, rendered and lined out at the front. Slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stack to left with rendered shaft. Plan: Originally a 2-room plan house, with entrance directly into the room to right; each room heated from a gable end stack, the stack to left removed. Probably in mid C19 an addition of one-room plan was made at the left end, and in C20 an addition of one-room plan was made to rear right. Exterior: 2 storeys, an asymmetrical 3-window front. All windows are 2-light 8-pane casements, with cambered arches at ground floor; some early C19 casements with L hinges. C20 door set in shallow C20 gabled porch, second from right. Left and right ends blind. Rear has 4-pane sash at ground floor to right. 2 storeys C20 addition to left with hipped roof and C20 glazed conservatory added in the angle to the main range. Interior: Not inspected.
