Description
Cornerways is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, with later additions and alterations made in the late 19th century and some in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with the left end wall made of concrete block. It features a bitumenised slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, and has gable end stacks with brick shafts.
The house has a two-room plan, with each room heated from a gable end stack. There is a later 19th-century addition at the rear right, which has a one-room plan and is also heated from a gable end stack. To the rear left, there is a second one-room addition that includes a 20th-century porch set in the angle on the left side. The original doorway, which was located at the center front, is now blocked.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. All windows on the ground floor are 19th-century 16-pane sashes, with the center window being the former doorway. At the right end, there is a small single-storey 20th-century addition with a window. The rear addition on the right features a late 19th-century 6-pane sash window at the 20th-century porch, which is partly asbestos slate-hung, along with a 20th-century 12-pane window. The rear wing on the left is slate-hung and has a small 20th-century window at the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
