Description

The former schoolroom, now a house in multiple occupation, is located immediately west of the lychgate at the west entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St Goran. It dates from around 1840, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed slatestone rubble with granite dressings and quoins, topped with a slurried scantle slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends with raised coped verges and a stone finial on the east side. The rear slope is covered in asbestos slate, and there is a rear lateral stack with a brick shaft.

The building has a large rectangular plan at the west end of the churchyard, likely originally housing a large schoolroom on the ground floor and first floor, with heating provided from the rear lateral stack. The entrances were originally located at the right and left ends of the front. In the late 19th century, a shallow one-room addition was made to the rear left.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical five-window front. The first floor features five 20th-century two-light three-pane casements with granite jambs and voussoirs. The ground floor has three central similar windows with toplights. To the right, there is a plank door with voussoirs, while the left doorway is blocked and has a 20th-century casement with toplights inserted. The left end of the building abuts an adjoining house, and the right end is blind with a small privy attached. At the rear, there is a 19th-century 12-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left, and the later 19th-century addition on the right side is two-storey with a monopitch slurried scantle slate roof, featuring two 20th-century windows and a door on the ground floor, and two 20th-century windows on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
