Description

The retaining wall, steps, and sundial at the west end of the churchyard of the Church of St Goran were built in the 19th century. They are constructed from slatestone rubble and granite. The retaining wall is approximately 10 metres long and about one metre high on the inner side, featuring chamfered granite coping. The wall turns at a right angle to the steps, which consist of a flight of ten wide granite steps with a similar wall along the outer side. The inner side of the wall curves around for about 12 metres to the north, decreasing in height with the slope of the ground. There is a chamfered granite pier, about 1.5 metres high, integrated into the wall, which supports a copper sundial with a gnomon dated 1708.
