Description

House. Built in the early to mid-19th century, with later 19th and 20th-century additions and alterations. The house is constructed of slatestone rubble with brick dressings, and has a slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. It features gable end stacks with brick shafts. Some parts of the house are rendered and slate-hung. The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a central entrance leading to a passage and a stair hall at the rear. Each room is heated by a gable end stack. A small two-storey addition, possibly a carpenter’s workshop, is situated at the right end, with an external stone stair leading to a loft. An early 20th-century addition is located to the rear left.

The front of the house is symmetrical with three windows. It has a central 20th-century glazed door, and original 19th-century 16-pane sashes with timber lintels above. The two-storey addition to the right has a hipped roof, rendered at ground floor and slate-hung above. The left end of the house is rendered and includes a 20th-century conservatory, window, and door. The right end of the addition has two 20th-century 12-pane windows on the ground floor, slate-hung above, with two small 20th-century 2-light 6-pane casement windows. The rear of the addition has an external stone stair leading to a 20th-century loft door; the upper level is slate hung. The rear of the main house has a 20th-century 3-light 6-pane casement with a timber lintel on the ground floor to the left, and a 16-pane sash and a 19th-century plate-glass and 8-pane sash window, lighting the stair, at first floor. The interior was not inspected.
